Respecting Teachers and Valuing the Medical Tradition | A Meaningful Meeting Between Professor Zhang Jinshan and Chengdu Uni-Asia Cancer Hospital
On May 31, 2026, Chengdu Uni-Asia Cancer Hospital had the honor of welcoming a special guest—Professor Zhang Jinshan, one of the pioneers of interventional radiology in China and former professor at the General Hospital of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (301 Hospital). Accompanied by his wife, the Professor visited the hospital to provide professional guidance and academic exchange.
Throughout the day, we witnessed a moving reunion between teacher and student, as well as the warmth conveyed in every word of encouragement at the bedside. Respecting teachers and valuing the medical tradition, and medical ethics grounded in sincerity—these eight words were most truly embodied on this special day.
01 Reception · A Reunion Between Teacher and Student
As soon as the hospital learned that Professor Zhang Jinshan would be visiting, the hospital leadership and department heads arrived early to receive him.
The hospital’s special expert, Professor Liao Zhengyin, had just completed a highly complex interventional procedure. When he learned that his teacher had arrived, he immediately hurried over despite still being tired after the operation.

Professor Liao embraced his teacher with a radiant smile. Professor Zhang gently patted his student on the shoulder, his eyes kind and full of pride, and inquired warmly about his work while offering many words of guidance.
All the medical staff present were deeply moved. There was no elaborate ceremony, only a respectful bow and a sincere embrace—that is the simplest beauty of the tradition of respecting teachers and valuing the medical tradition in medicine.
02 Guidance · Warmth at the Bedside
Accompanied by the hospital leadership, Professor Zhang toured the inpatient ward, learned in detail about the development of the interventional specialty, the equipment system, and distinctive treatment services, and also provided direct professional guidance.
The most moving moment took place right in the hospital room.
Professor Zhang proactively came to the bedside and patiently listened to the patient share his concerns. He used simple language to explain the condition and gently said:
“Medical technology has advanced tremendously today. Keep your faith, actively cooperate with treatment, and your life will only get better and better.”
Those plain but heartfelt words were like a spring breeze warming people’s hearts. The patient repeatedly expressed gratitude with emotion, filling the entire room with a warm atmosphere.

Professor Zhang also exchanged views with young doctors.
